Negative thoughts produce negative feelings Part 3: Self Blaming

We all make mistakes; it’s part of being human. But for many people, a single misstep can spiral into a storm of self-blame and harsh inner criticism. Instead of learning and moving forward, they get stuck replaying what went wrong, convinced that they’re not good enough. Over time, this kind of thinking can chip away at confidence, create anxiety, and even lead to depression.
For example:
Paula’s friend had a minor traffic accident while she and Paula were riding to the mall. Paula thought, “This accident was my fault. I should not have been talking to Jackie while we were driving. Even though that other car hit us, I’m sure Jackie could have avoided it if I had kept my mouth shut.”
Self-blame often comes from a good place, a desire to take responsibility and do better next time. But when it becomes excessive or automatic, it can become detrimental to our mental health and well-being. You might notice thoughts like:
“It’s all my fault.”
"I shouldn't have done that"
“I should have known better.”
“I always mess things up.”
These thoughts are powerful because they’re rooted in emotion rather than fact. Over time, the mind begins to believe these stories, shaping your identity around guilt and inadequacy.
How Hypnotherapy Can Help
Rather than simply trying to “think positively,” hypnotherapy helps you feel different from within, transforming the emotional response that drives self-critical thinking.
Unlike traditional talk therapies that focus mainly on conscious thought, hypnotherapy works at the level where beliefs are formed. It helps you to:
Change negative self-talk from the inside out
Heal emotional wounds that fuel self-criticism
Feel calmer, lighter, and more resilient
Reconnect with your true sense of self-worth
Most people describe hypnotherapy as deeply relaxing and empowering. It’s not about losing control; it’s about managing how you think and feel about yourself.
